When it comes to paradise, one place that immediately springs to mind is the island of Moorea in Tahiti. Specifically, a stay in one of the over-water bungalows at the Hilton Moorea Lagoon Resort and Spa. Moorea is easily reached by air or by a thirty minute ferry ride from Papeete followed by a twenty minute drive from the ferry port. Nestled between two bays with lush green mountains as a backdrop and a crystal clear lagoon embracing its edge, this magical island resort could very well be the definition of a South Pacific dream escape.
The over-water bungalows have beautiful wood interiors with ceiling fans that create a very relaxed atmosphere. They are connected by winding, wooden walkways built on stilts over the lagoon. Besides the snorkel and fins in the front closet, my favorite touch is the see-through coffee table that offers up a view of the coral and marine activity below. There’s even a light that allows you to observe night activity. One night after enjoying dinner on our private dock, I threw a left over piece a bread in the water which lead to a mass feeding frenzy of so many fish that I could hardly believe my eyes. This is certainly one of the best beach resorts in Moorea.
